The inaugural Blum Design Awards with The Local Project celebrate the details that elevate everyday living – from the craftsmanship of joinery to the elegance of movement in design.

As one of the world’s leading manufacturers of high-quality fittings for kitchens and furniture, Blum understands the essential importance of the ‘unseen’ – the often-hidden elements that support great design.

These awards showcase the craftsmanship, precision and innovation of those elements as displayed in elevated design projects, whether they’re built into a cabinet, a space or a system. The Blum Design Awards – with The Local Project – are open to Australian architects, designers, cabinetmakers, joiners, artisans and craftsmen who have specified Blum in an Australian project.

Across four categories, the awards will celebrate the best in Australian design ingenuity, with the winners announced at a gala event in Sydney in March 2026. And the prize? The four winning projects will be the subject of a full video case study captured by The Local Production, which will appear on The Local Project’s video and digital channels and is valued at more than $50,000.

Award categories
Craftsmanship &
Joinery Excellence

Celebrating the skill and artistry of bespoke joinery and cabinetry, this award looks to recognize the makers and designers who elevate simple construction to refined craft.

Joinery is more than just construction – it is the refined intersection of form and function, where precision, materiality and detail meet to create a seamless experience.

Celebrating the Unseen:

Innovative Integration

Honouring clever, purposeful solutions that enhance the function and experience of a space – whether through integrated mechanisms, modular thinking or creative detailing. Showcasing the often-unseen ingenuity within these integrated systems,

this award demonstrates how thoughtful innovation can elevate the everyday. Beyond simple aesthetics, integrated hardware and systems contribute to spatial efficiency and experience within a home, resolving complex challenges whether in a new build, considered renovation or constrained site profile.

Materiality & Detail

Celebrating exceptional use and understanding of materials at a micro-level, this award showcases those who are using texture, connection and finish to contribute to the soul of a project. It is in these finely considered details – how two materials meet, how a surface interacts to touch – that architecture gains emotional depth and tactile resonance. A nuanced approach to materiality not only enhances visual interest, but also speaks to authenticity and longevity in a project.

Design in Motion

Casting a spotlight on designs that incorporate movement, this award honours the dynamic interplay between form and function within kinetic moments, adaptable spatial elements and reconfigurable systems. With a considered approach to space being more important than ever, this award acknowledges the importance of building a design language that speaks to flexibility and innovation without compromising on high-quality design intention.
